I can say that I loved almost everything about this episode. I can also say that I wasn't really surprised how it ended up. All the signs were pointing to the second AI being connected to the nightbloods, and the Polaris pod coming down, and a competing AI, and that it was connected to Lexa and the reincarnation thing they have going. I kind of feel like I should read less meta and I already don't read that much… I didn't know what was going to happen, but it unfolded naturally because it was all set up.
I can't even say I was surprised when Lexa got shot and died, because she and Clarke finally got together! Which I was surprised by! Because Buffy/Angel anyone?
* That said, I don't have a whole lot to say or even overwhelming feelings this week. I think I've been half expecting Lexa to die all season because no way things go well for her and Clarke.
* And Clarke! Now the second person she's let herself love on the ground is dead dead dead, and partly from people reacting to her. Which totally totally sucks because she and Lexa were quite the pair, and so perfect for each other. And okay, here are the overwhelming emotions… When she recites the Sky People's prayer for Lexa, my heart broke into a thousand tiny little pieces.
* Murphy is back! And I love what he figured out from the shrine, and I love that Clarke called him her friend, when he showed up, and I kind of want them to be friends now. And Emori too.
* OCTAVIA IS STILL THE BEST AND OMG TEAMED UP WTIH INDRA!
People need to stop disappointing Octavia. I'm glad Clarke made the decision to leave, that Octavia reached her. I wish she'd had a chance to tell O though.
Octavia getting Indra back on her feet was awesome. She's all alone and all the people she's looked up to in the past are falling apart, or have already fallen apart, and Octavia is trying to hold it all together, and she was able to reach Indra. That power walk as they left - the best!
* I liked the flashbacks. That's all I really got. I'm glad it's two competing AIs, I think that's cool. Really interested to see how this storyline plays out now.
How do I feel? I wrote a lengthy post a while back. But in short - cheated.
This is queer baiting not because Lexa was killed – but because of the way her death was handled (a fucking random bullet, Show, are you kidding me? Could she not die for the cause of peace? Uniting the 13 clan again? Saving Clarke? Is this the way this magnificent, beautiful character has to go?
Her final moments with Clarke were heartbreaking and beautiful. But the hell with them. Without Lexa, I lost much of my interest in this Show. I will still follow and watch – but.
One thing that I’m interested to me – The Vancouver leaks. What are they, exactly? An illusion, only, or else reunion of some kind in the City of Light…
Also – What if there are two City of Lights, each representing one of the AI’s, each the sum-total of it’s “life purpose”? What if the true fight is not between Sky People and Grounders, but between AI 1 and AI 2?
What if the Vancouver leaks happen in AI 2, and so do have some sort of actual meaning…
Please tell me I’m not grasping at straws here…(although I think I am)
Yeah, I know what you mean. After rereading my reaction, I feel like I should caveat what I loved about the episode better - it turns out after not being able to get to sleep last night thinking about Lexa that I was more upset than my initial post-watch reaction indicates.
I'm not sure what's going on in the Vancouver leaks. I've been avoiding them because of spoilers, but I'll see what links I can track down this weekend.
This is my take on things wrt the AIs. AI-1 (Alie) has created the City of Light for people that are connected to her. From what we know of AI-2 (Commander Spirit) so far, there isn't an equivalent of the City of Light, i.e. a shared simulation. The Commander hears the voices of the past commanders in dreams, but the AI is integrated into the personality (I think? As in the AI consciousneess doesn't take over? This is unconfirmed) and seeks to cause change in the real world. I could be wrong, there could be a second City of Light, but we don't have evidence of that yet that I know of.
I think one of the fights this season will be between AI-1 and AI-2, and since AI-2 is the upgrade, its winning may be what kills AI-1, which is why AI-1/Alie is on defense, trying to recruit people. Maybe the people who go to her City of Light are going to be hostages. Honestly I'm still not sure what its game is.
But I think a real possibility for where it's going is that AI-2 ends up in the shared simulation/City of Light when the story lines converge. This would necessarily involve the next Commander who gets the chip (Ontari seems like a candidate, though I just had the thought of what if Clarke and Murphy steal it...) Or, AI-2 takes over the City of Light in an upgrade and merges with it so that's where we see Lexa again.
Part or even all of of Lexa's consciousness, I think, is alive still in AI-2. But then the story falls into the romance trope of loving someone who's now in a different body (I'm kind of thinking Dax from DS9) and we know how those usually turn out.
